FAQ

What is Castile soap?

Castile soap is a traditional plant-based soap made by saponifying vegetable oils with water and sodium hydroxide. During saponification, the oils are transformed into soap, creating a versatile cleanser that can be used throughout the home.

What is the difference between Olive Oil Castile Soap and Coconut Oil Castile Soap?

Both are concentrated plant-based Castile soaps, but each has unique characteristics.

Olive Oil Castile Soap

  • Creamy, low-foam lather
  • Gentle cleansing
  • Excellent for everyday body care and general household cleaning

Coconut Oil Castile Soap

  • Rich, bubbly lather
  • Stronger grease-cutting ability
  • Excellent for dishes, kitchens, laundry, and heavier cleaning jobs

Which Castile soap is best for washing dishes?

Our Coconut Oil Castile Soap naturally provides richer lather and stronger grease-cutting performance, making it an excellent choice for dishwashing and kitchen cleaning.

Which Castile soap is best for body care?

Many customers prefer our Olive Oil Castile Soap for daily body care because of its creamy lather and gentle cleansing properties.

Why doesn’t my soap contain preservatives?

Our formulas are intentionally simple. We use only the ingredients necessary to create traditional Castile soap through the soapmaking process.

Why is sodium hydroxide listed as an ingredient?

Sodium hydroxide is used during the soapmaking process to transform plant oils into soap through saponification. When properly made, the finished soap is no longer simply oil mixed with sodium hydroxide. It has been chemically transformed into soap and glycerin.

Why is Castile soap concentrated?

Our Castile soap is designed to be diluted for many everyday uses. Because it is concentrated, a little goes a long way, helping reduce waste and making each bottle last longer.

What is Castile Paste?

Castile Paste is an ultra-concentrated version of our liquid Castile soap. Simply dilute it with distilled water to create the consistency and strength that best suits your cleaning needs.

Why should I dilute the paste with distilled water?

Distilled water helps maintain consistency and can extend the shelf life of your diluted soap by reducing impurities that may be present in tap water.

Can I use the paste without diluting it?

Yes. The paste can be used directly for tougher cleaning tasks or diluted to create liquid soap. Use the amount that works best for your intended application.

How long does one jar of Castile Paste last?

Because the paste is highly concentrated, one jar can produce multiple bottles of liquid Castile soap depending on your preferred dilution ratio.

Why does my soap become thicker or thinner?

Natural Castile soap may change consistency with temperature. Cooler temperatures can make it thicker, while warmer temperatures may make it thinner. This is normal and does not affect quality or performance.

Why doesn’t Castile soap produce huge bubbles?

Bubble size does not determine cleaning ability.

Olive Oil Castile Soap naturally produces a creamy, lower-foam lather, while Coconut Oil Castile Soap creates a richer, bubblier lather. Both clean effectively.

Can I refill my own soap dispensers?

Absolutely. Our concentrated formulas are ideal for refilling hand soap and household dispensers, helping reduce single-use plastic waste.

Is your soap biodegradable?

Our plant-based Castile soap is biodegradable. Even so, we recommend avoiding direct use in natural lakes, rivers, or streams. For outdoor use, wash well away from natural water sources and allow the soil to help break the soap down.

Does your soap contain artificial fragrances?

No. Our formulas are free from added artificial fragrances unless a specific scented variety is clearly labeled.

Why choose Castilora?

We believe simple formulas create exceptional products. Every bottle is crafted with carefully selected plant oils and designed to replace multiple specialty cleaners throughout your home.

One Soap. Endless Possibilities.

Can I use Castile soap for every cleaning task?

Castile soap is incredibly versatile, but it isn’t the right choice for every situation. Avoid mixing it directly with acids like vinegar in the same container, as this can reduce its effectiveness. Also, always test any cleaner on a small, inconspicuous area first, especially on delicate or specialty surfaces.

What type of water should I use to dilute Castile Paste?

For the best results, we recommend deionized or distilled water when diluting your Castilora Castile Paste.

Using purified water helps maintain a smooth consistency and reduces the minerals that can be present in tap water.

If purified water isn’t available, clean tap water can still be used, but the diluted soap may vary slightly in appearance or consistency depending on your local water quality.
